For one street or block in Garfield Heights, Ohio

Lend it down the street. Get it back.

Street Shelf is a private lending shelf for your block. Neighbors list the ladder, the tile saw and the folding tables they are willing to lend; anyone on the shelf can ask; and the shelf keeps the card: who has it, and the day it is due back.

Street Pass $1.95 a month or $19.50 a year per shelf, or a Block Week for $1.00: free during preview. Free shelf for up to 8 neighbors.

How a loan goes

  1. 1

    List what you would lend

Ladder, wet-dry vac, canopy, pressure canner. Mark a thing "away" any time you need it yourself.

  2. 2

A neighbor asks, you say yes

They pick a day and how long. You lend it with a due date, or decline: no reason needed.

  3. 3

    The card remembers

The shelf shows who has it and when it is due. Overdue gets a red stamp. You mark it back when it is home.

Example shelf

"Oakwood Ave, 5400 block" on a Monday

Made-up neighbors and things, drawn by the same code that draws a real shelf. Notice the wheelbarrow: due last Friday, so it wears the overdue stamp.

What the shelf keeps track of

So nobody has to remember who has the hedge trimmer.

  • Who has it

Every thing out on loan shows the borrower's first name and the due date, on everyone's page.

  • Your calendar

Add your own due dates to Google, Apple or Outlook calendar with one feed link: what you borrowed and what you lent.

  • Private by link

No accounts, no email, no passwords. Each neighbor gets their own link; only its fingerprint is stored.

  • Reach, only when it counts

"How to reach me" is shown only to the person you are lending to or borrowing from, never on the shelf.

  • A flyer for the street

Print an invite with your shelf code and tear-off strips. A new code any time; the old one stops working.

  • A ledger

With Street Pass, download every ask, loan and return as a spreadsheet for the block meeting.

Questions neighbors ask

Does money change hands between neighbors?

No. Street Shelf is for lending, not renting: there are no prices on things, no deposits and no payments between neighbors. The only price on this site is the shelf's own plan.

Who can see my things and my name?

Anyone who has your shelf's code sees the shelf: things, first names and house labels you chose to give. Your "how to reach me" line is shown only to someone you lend to or borrow from, while that loan is out.

Is this run by the City of Garfield Heights?

No. Street Shelf is an independent tool made by WeldonPC. It is not a City, school or council service, and it is not affiliated with Garfield United (Garfield, NJ).

What if something breaks while it is borrowed?

That stays between the two neighbors, the way it always has. The lending card suggests agreeing on it before the handoff. Street Shelf does not insure, inspect or guarantee anything.

Someone joined who should not be on our shelf.

The keeper can remove any neighbor (their things and asks go with them) and make a new shelf code, so the old flyer stops working.

Somebody on your street already owns the thing you need.
